AI Video Playbook

Audio tools

ElevenLabs, Suno, Mirelo SFX 2.0 and Hedra compared on price and license, and how to add sound to a finished cut.

Audio is the first thing that makes an AI video feel cheap. Keep a model's native audio for quick tests, but for anything you will publish, add voice, music and sound effects as separate layers. If you buy one audio plan, make it ElevenLabs Starter at 6 USD a month: it covers voice and sound effects with commercial rights.

  • SFX 2.0 was released on 14 Oct 2026. It handles videos up to 10 minutes, keeps sound consistent across stitched clips, and can remove unwanted music while keeping dialogue.
  • It has plugins for Premiere and Resolve, an MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, and an API.

  • Character 3 costs about 6 credits per second, so Basic covers about 5 minutes of talking video.
  • Hedra raised prices in September 2026 (Basic was 15 USD). All paid plans include commercial use.

Which to buy

  • About 6 USD: ElevenLabs Starter for voice and sound effects. Use free libraries (Pixabay, Freesound) for music.
  • About 14 USD: add Suno Pro (8 USD) when you need original music.
  • Lip sync: Hedra Basic only when a character speaks to camera in most of your videos. For a character made in Kling, try Kling's own lip sync first (Pro plan and up).
  • Mirelo: use the free 8 minutes to test it on one finished cut before you pay.

Add sound to a finished cut

Lock the picture

Finish the edit first. Changing shot lengths after the sound is in means redoing the sound.

Record the voice

Write the voiceover to fit the cut, generate it in ElevenLabs, and place it on its own track.

Add sound effects

Run the cut through Mirelo, or make single effects in ElevenLabs. Footsteps, impacts and room tone matter more than music.

Add music last

Generate a bed in Suno or Eleven Music, or use a free library track. Keep it under the voice.

Mix on separate tracks

Keep dialogue, sound effects, ambience and music on separate tracks so you can balance them. Do lip sync as its own step if a character speaks.

Prompt
Short instrumental bed for a 30 second product video, warm lo-fi hip hop, soft piano and vinyl crackle, steady 85 BPM, no vocals, gentle fade out at the end.

Settings worth changing

  • "No music" in video prompts. Every native audio model invents music if you leave sound out. Ask for sound effects only and add music in the edit.
  • Voice track as a lip sync reference. One creator puts an ElevenLabs voice on a black frame video reference, cut to the clip length, plus an image reference.
  • Annual billing on ElevenLabs and Suno only after a month of real use.

Gotchas

Free songs stay non commercial

Suno songs made on the free plan never become commercially usable, even if you upgrade later. Songs made while you subscribe keep their rights after you cancel.

  • Free tiers carry no commercial rights on ElevenLabs (voice and music), Suno and Kling. Rights attach to what you make while subscribed.
  • Content ID. Music from Suno or Eleven Music can still trigger YouTube Content ID claims.
  • Mirelo license. The pricing page does not state commercial terms. Check the Terms of Service before client work. Free projects are deleted after one week.
  • Paid hype. The "Mirelo SFX 2.0 beats Veo 3.1 Fast 57 percent to 21 percent" posts were a sponsored campaign with vendor supplied numbers.
  • Suno legal status. Warner settled with and licensed Suno in November 2025; UMG and Sony have not.
