Google Veo and Gemini Omni

Veo 3.1 Lite, Fast and Standard plus Gemini Omni Flash, the Flow credit costs, Google's audio and dialogue syntax, and access from Vietnam.

Google is the best free place to start. Google Flow gives everyone 50 credits a day, and a Veo 3.1 Lite clip costs 10 of them. Use Veo 3.1 for polished single shots with ambience and dialogue, and Gemini Omni Flash for cheap drafts, edits of a clip you already made, and storyboard driven shots. Flow works in Vietnam.

Vietnam

  • Flow is officially available in Vietnam for users 18 and over. Vietnamese is a supported language, but Google recommends English prompts.
  • Vietnam is on the Gemini API's supported countries list.
  • Unused monthly Flow credits do not roll over.

Best for

From community reports and Google's own guide:

  • Free practice. Flow's daily credits are the most cited free start. One user estimates 3 to 5 videos a day.
  • Polish and atmosphere. Veo is picked for establishing shots, B roll, physics and ambience audio.
  • Dialogue scenes. Quoted dialogue with named speakers works well on Veo.
  • Cheap drafts and edits with Omni. One organic creator made a micro drama in Omni Flash and found it cheaper than Seedance 2.5. Omni keeps the structure of a shot when you ask for a small change.
  • Storyboard grids. Google says Omni accepts a storyboard sheet if you state the reading order and total duration.

Weak at

  • Flagging. Organic users report heavy moderation. One creator spent almost 5 hours on a project because of flagged shots, even though 90 to 95% of shots worked on the first try.
  • Credit burn. One user spent 800 credits on a 28 second UGC video. Beginners report the same.
  • Speed. Generation can be slow.
  • Stylized characters. Veo can pull cartoon characters toward a realistic look. State the style explicitly.

How to prompt it

Veo 3.1

Google's guide lists the parts of a good prompt: subject, action, style, camera position and motion, composition, focus and lens, and ambiance. Google Cloud's guide puts the camera first: cinematography, subject, action, context, style and ambiance.

  • Dialogue: put speech in quotes and name the speaker: JUN: "Does it ever get easier?"
  • Sound: describe sound effects and ambience explicitly, in separate sentences. Google Cloud's guide uses the labels SFX: and Ambient noise:.
  • Camera words that work: eye level, low angle, dolly, truck, pedestal, crane, whip pan, arc, rack focus, dolly zoom.
  • Negatives: Vertex suggests listing what you do not want to see, not writing "no" or "don't" in the prompt.
  • Several beats in one clip: use timestamps such as [00:00-00:03].

Gemini Omni Flash

  • For one continuous scene, write "In a single continuous shot" and "No scene cuts".
  • Timecodes such as [0-3s] work.
  • Edit prompts should be short, change one thing, and end with "Keep everything else the same".
  • There is no negative prompt setting.
  • Omni knows a lot about places, eras and cultures. A short reference ("1990s Hanoi street market") can replace a long description. One guide found 40 words beat 150 (single source).

Example prompts

Veo 3.1, a two person dialogue with timestamps:

Prompt
[00:00-00:03] Medium two shot, static, 50mm. MARA, a tired paramedic in her 40s, and JUN, a rookie in his 20s, sit in an ambulance bay at night under fluorescent light.
[00:03-00:06] Close up on JUN. JUN: "Does it ever get easier?" Ambient noise: distant siren, rain on the roof.
[00:06-00:08] Close up on MARA, she half smiles. MARA: "No. You get better." SFX: radio crackle.

Veo 3.1, an establishing shot with camera first:

Prompt
Slow crane up from street level, wide angle, 24mm. A narrow Hoi An street at dusk,
silk lanterns glowing yellow and red, a cyclist passes under them.
Warm practical light against a deep blue sky, light haze.
Ambient noise: distant chatter, a bicycle bell. SFX: lanterns creaking in the breeze.

Gemini Omni Flash, a single continuous shot:

Prompt
In a single continuous shot, a street food vendor in 1990s Saigon flips a banh xeo in a hot pan,
steam rising, the camera slowly pushing in to the pan. Evening, neon light from a shop sign.
Sizzling oil, motorbikes passing. No scene cuts. No music.

Gemini Omni Flash, an edit of a clip you already have:

Prompt
Change the jacket to dark green. Keep everything else the same.

Gemini Omni Flash, from a storyboard sheet:

Prompt
Animate the attached 3 by 3 storyboard, reading left to right, top to bottom, about 1 second per panel, 9 seconds in total.
Keep the character's face and clothes identical in every panel. Do not show panel borders, numbers or captions.
Audio: footsteps and room tone only, no music.

Settings that save credits

  • Draft on Lite or Omni 360p. Lite is 10 credits per clip, Omni 360p is 4 to 7. Move only the keeper to Fast or Quality.
  • Set outputs to one video. Flow charges per video, not per request, and one request can make 2 videos.
  • Use Ultra's free lower priority Lite if you are on Ultra.
  • Upscale to 1080p in Flow costs 0 credits. Generate at 720p and upscale the keeper.
  • Extend instead of regenerating when the first 8 s are right. Extend costs the same as a new Lite or Fast clip.
  • Avoid the 2 PM to 5 PM UTC window on the free plan, when video may be unavailable.
  • Keep Veo Fast prompts short. Overly detailed prompts on Veo Fast produced unrelated results in one Adobe community report.

Flow credits do not roll over

Unused monthly Flow credits expire at the end of the month. Purchased credits follow their own purchase terms. Buy a bigger plan only for a month when you have a real project.

Known issues

ProblemWhat to do
Shot flagged or blockedRephrase and retry. One creator got 90 to 95% of shots through on the first try by attaching a character sheet and a location sheet.
Cartoon character turns realisticAdd the style constraints: "flat shading, ink outlines, no photoreal texture"
Voice cuts off in an extensionVeo extends voice poorly when nobody speaks in the last second of the source clip. End the source clip on speech.
Files missing from the APIGemini API keeps generated files for 2 days. Download them right away.
